Big B’s Bets: National Championship

A lot of the Caribbean and exotic tournaments are starting this week and the upsets started last night with Indiana losing to undermanned Wake Forest and LSU losing to Marquette.

#5 Kansas at UCLA (Maui), 10:00pm ET

Semifinals of the Maui Invitational, not much else to say other then I think Kansas rolls. It’s really crazy how far UCLA has fallen since the Ben Howland years.

Kansas State at #9 North Carolina (Kansas City), 10:00pm ET

Another huge test for a Marcus Paige-less North Carolina as they take on undefeated Kansas State in a quasi road game in Kansas City. I really like the way UNC has tested themselves early this season and I think it will help them once Paige returns.

#19 Vanderbilt at Wake Forest (Maui), 7:30pm ET

Another semifinal of the Maui Invitational. Wake Forest had the upset of Monday beating Indiana without their star guard Codi Miller-McIntyre, while Vanderbilt blew out a hapless St. Johns team.

Bonus Game: Valparaiso at Oregon State, 9:00pm ET

I love what Valpo has been doing thus far this year. They are boosting their resume early just in case they don’t win the Horizon League. The Crusaders played a good Oregon team tough Sunday, and now drive North to play Oregon State. The Beavers are led by Gary Payton II, who is the son of NBA legend Gary Payton. Payton II and co. are undefeated, but again haven’t played anyone of note. I predict Valpo will pull off the upset on the road.
