As a Borussia Dortmund fan, this one hurts almost as much as Mats Hummels leaving for Bayern Munich. Gundogan had been with Dortmund since 2011, and he’s grown up with the likes of Reus, Hummels, Gotze and Lewandowski, who all but Reus have left the club.
Manchester City paid around €20 million for Gundogan who is truly a box-to-box midfielder with incredible stamina and skill. He’ll no doubt rip apart the Premier League, because his skill and fluidity of movement were no where to be seen in this past Premier League season.
At his best, Gundogan is truly a joy to watch, and will bring a calming study influence in the center of the park for The Citizens. Usually Manchester City just throw money at positions they don’t really need (Raheem Sterling) but this Gundogan signing is a much needed bolstering to the City midfield.
This twitter video almost brought a tear to my eye. As a Dortmund fan it pains me to think what could’ve been if we kept Lewandowski, Hummels, Gotze and now Gundogan. That team would probably win the Champions League running away.
