It’s finally over. The NHL playoffs have finished after almost a two month sprint to the end, with the Pittsburgh Penguins winning their 4th Stanley Cup in franchise history, and the first since 2009.

Here at the Ledge we fully admit our hockey coverage has been quite muted, but only because this Stanley Cup Finals hasn’t been overly entertaining.

Sunday night in San Jose, the Sharks had a chance to stretch the series to 7 games, after a gutty must-win road win in Pittsburgh. The Penguins had other ideas, as the veteran-laden team won handily San Jose to clinch the Stanley Cup.

I had one reservation about the whole award ceremony after the Penguins were presented the Cup. Why did Sidney Crosby win the Conn Smythe? Yes, Crosby had a great Playoff run, but he was a -2 and didn’t score a goal in the Finals. I think Patric Hornqvist, Phil Kessel and Kris Letang were far more deserving.

Here are the best moments from Game 6:

Penguins mob Matt Murray as they win the Cup.

Crosbv passes the Cup to Dupuis and Daley who weren’t able to finish the playoffs with injuries.

Phil Kessel finally raises the Cup that has eluded him.

The San Jose crowd boo Crosby as he accepts the Conn Smythe.
