Fifteen years and 21 gold medals ago, Michael Phelps was dreaming about one day being victorious in the Olympics.
WJZ, a CBS Baltimore affiliate, released an old video in which Phelps, a Maryland native, chatted about his future Olympic goals. The interview took place one year after Phelps’s first Olympic appearance at Sydney in 2000. Phelps was 15 at the time, making him the youngest American male to make the USA swim team in 68 years.
Four years later at Athens, Phelps won six golds and two bronzes. As of today, he holds the record with 21 gold medals.
