We made it 2017 and we aren’t finished with the 2016 CFB season yet. After Saturday I needed the day to rest yesterday but I’m glad we’re back today. I have today off (I hope you do too) and I’m not moving from my couch. Let’s see how the rest of the bowl games play out today as we all take the rest of the week to prepare for the Ship!
My Current Bowl Record: 5-11
#17 Florida vs Iowa
1 PM, Outback Bowl
Who: Florida RB Jordan Scarlett, Iowa QB C.J. Beathard
What: Florida’s offense has struggled this season. Florida’s defense has struggled. But Florida won the SEC East and are now here. Iowa on the other hand can score thanks to QB Beathard. This game isn’t about offenses though. It’s about the defenses. If Florida can hold down the long, spark plays Iowa can produce, it’ll be all Gators. If Iowa can keep Florida’s shaky offense off the scoreboard, it’ll be a W for them. The score of this game might not be that high if the defenses are controlling each play.
My Pick: Florida
#8 Wisconsin #15 Western Michigan
1 PM, Goodyear Cotton Bowl
Who: Wisconsin QB Alex Hornibrook, WM QB Zach Terrell
What: Western Michigan is one of two ranked teams to be undefeated at the end of the season. They play in the MAC Conference, so…. they played no one relevant. So despite their undefeated regular season, this is going to be the toughest task they’ve been given. Yet, they have a dynamic duo that is going be hard to stop. Terrell and WR Corey Davis can do damage with the air game. They have yet to see a defense like Wisconsin though. Even though Terrell has only 3 interceptions on the season, Wisconsin is ranked second in the FBS with 21 interceptions. Will Terell be able to get the ball going or will Wisconsin step in and take this one away?
My Pick: Wisconsin
#5 Penn State vs #9 USC
5 PM, Rose Bowl
Who: Penn State QB Trace McSorley, USC RB Ronald Jones II
What: Both of these teams started the season shaky but bounced back to save their seasons. Penn State took down Ohio State and USC took down Washington. Both has the ability to play the big dogs and hold on. How will they play each other? Sorley has RB Saquon Barkley and WR Chris Godwin. USC can attack one but not both at the same time. The USC Defense must come up strong against the Penn State offense if it wants to stand a chance. USC does have Adoree’ Jackson though. One of the best punt + kick off returners in the game on top of the offense. This won’t be an easy battle as both teams have shown what they can do, it’s the Rose Bowl and neither team wants to go home empty handed. Who stops the big offensive plays and who makes them?
My Pick: Penn State, gross
#7 Oklahoma vs #14 Auburn
8:30 PM, Allstate Sugar Bowl
Who: Oklahoma QB Baker Mayfield, Auburn RB Kamryn Pettway
What: Oklahoma has been int he spotlight for disappointing reasons recently. So here’s to hoping the good people on this team have great games and the shitty person has an awful one. Auburn has the run game and Oklahoma has the air game. So who comes out on top? Auburn has a dominant defensive line, if they can get to Mayfield and keep it out of the air they are golden. They can stop the run game so the women hitter (RB Joe Mixon) shouldn’t see the long runs. Now, if Oklahoma can stop the run game by Pettway, then they are golden. Teams have succeeded against Auburn when they stop the run.
My Pick: Oklahoma but don’t give trash bag Mixon any of the winning gear.
