If you’re a crazed college basketball fan like myself, then you have to know Jimmy Patsos. The Boston native has been coaching mid-major basketball programs for what seems like years now, including Loyola (MD) and his current stop at Siena. Patsos is known throughout the NCAA for his abrasive nature and his hot temper. I guess that comes with the territory with a greek guy from Boston.
Before I explain what happened last night when Siena met Rider, here is an all-access look at how Patsos runs his Siena program… buckle up. My favorite part is when he shows his team ‘Saving Private Ryan’ and he explains that we’d all be speaking German if we didn’t win WWII. Classic Patsos embellishment.
That takes us to Tuesday night when Siena hosted MAAC rival Rider. Late in the second half, a brawl broke out between both teams and coaches, and guy who was in the middle of it all…fucking Jimmy Patsos. Siena ending up winning the game and both Rider coaches and players decided to forgo the handshake line, but being the stand up guy he is, Patsos proceeded to go through an imaginary handshake line and “air” handshake every Rider coach and player. God I love College Basketball.
