Well the rich just keep getting richer… There have been plenty of moves over the past 24 hours, but the most notable move just occurred a few minutes ago. St. Louis will send Kevin Shattenkirk to Washington for prospect Zach Sanford, 1st round pick in 2017 and a 2nd round pick in 2018. This deal means 2 things.. 1) The Blues are beginning to realize their current core isn’t gonna get it done, and that they needed something before Shattenkirk walked this summer. 2) The Capitals are sick and fucking tired of coming up short. This move makes the Caps the undisputed favorites in the East, but that’s a title they’ve had many times in the past and they haven’t been able to live up to it.
Last night, another game changing deal was made as LA added Ben Bishop and a 2017 5th round pick from Tampa Bay for Peter Budaj, prospect Erik Cernak and a 2017 7th round pick. LA must be concerned with the possibility of Quick getting hurt again, so they pulled the trigger on a struggling goalie that was a Vezina finalist last year. I really like the move for both sides.. Tampa gets a promising young defenseman in exchange for goalie who they weren’t bringing back, and LA gets what could be the best goalie duo in the league.
We’ve seen a few other deals such as Burrows to Ottowa and Hanzal to Minnesota. Two major splashes already, and I’m sure we’ll see at least 1 or 2 more tomorrow.. Yeah, I’m looking at you Colorado.
