The Colorado Rockies’ impressive lineup took a hit Sunday as newly acquired Ian Desmond suffered a broken left hand.

The Rockies’ premier free agent signing was hit by a pitch and will see a hand specialist to see how much time he’ll be forced to miss. Colorado signed Desmond to a five-year, $70 million deal in the offseason.

Desmond, who played shortstop with the Nationals and center field with the Rangers- was set to be Colorado’s full-time first baseman in 2017. It looks like Mark Reynolds will take over that role while he recovers.

While Desmond’s injury is disappointing and definitely doesn’t do the Rockies any favors, the offense is still looking spectacular. Plenty of runs will be scored, even in Desmond’s absence.
