The Pittsburgh Pirates will be without their prized center fielder Starling Marte for a while as he’s suspended 80 games for performance-enhancing drugs.

MLB announced Tuesday that Marte tested positive for Nandrolone, a synthetic anabolic-androgenic steroid. The Pirates released this statement:

It’s a huge blow to this Pirates team. Marte has emerged as unquestionably their best player, but they’ll have to find ways to win without him for most of this season. Marte will not be allowed to participate in the postseason should Pittsburgh make it.

Marte, a two-time Gold Glover, hit .311/.362/.456 a season ago while swiping 47 bases and making his first All-Star team.
