Buckle up folks, as the biggest boxing match in the past decade is set to take place on September 16th, with Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez taking on Gennady ‘GGG’ Golovkin in the super fight fans have been begging for for years. It looks like Oscar De La Hoya caught wind of the threat I made towards him in my last article, so you can all thank me for making this fight happen. Now, with boxing having no official ranking system, everyone has their own opinion on who the top boxers in the world are.. and in my opinion I have GGG ranked #2 in the world with Canelo at #4. This fight will determine who the best boxer in the world is.

Last night we saw Canelo put on an absolute clinic against Chavez Jr who fought as well as a punching bag out there. After the match Canelo called out GGG who then entered the ring the square up with Canelo. Breaking down this fight gives me goose bumps already, because it is a picture perfect stylistic match up. GGG will come right at Canelo leading with his thunderous jab.. he’ll throw that jab in Canelo’s face time and time again until he’s ready to unleash his hooks from hell. GGG has the kind of power in his hands that can alter someones career in the blink of an eye, similar to a panther he’ll keep stalking and then out of nowhere, the fight is over.

Canelo on the other hand, is a counter puncher. He’ll back up and shoulder roll away from everything GGG throws his way, then fire his shots when he makes GGG miss . This has always been his style, but he’s never been in the ring with anyone that has the one shot KO power of GGG. The initial odds on this one have GGG as a slight favorite at -160, with Canelo at +140.. just the second time Canelo has been listed as an underdog (only other time was against Floyd). The massive advantage in power is the clear reason the 35 year old GGG is the initial favorite over the 26 year old Canelo, but I disagree with the odds makers here. GGG looked like he regressed in his last bout, the first time we’ve seen a chink in his armor.. where Canelo is still ascending, looking better and better as he approaches his prime.

We’ve got a while to go before this one, so I’ll just leave you with these in the mean time.
