Tomorrow afternoon, 1 pm, live from Stockholm, Sweden on FS1.. we’ve got the #1 ranked light heavyweight in the world in Alexander Gustafsson taking on the #2 ranked light heavyweight in the world in Glover Teixeira in the main event. Let’s dive in.

Alexander “The Mauler” Gustafsson #1 vs Glover Teixeira #2:

This fight will likely determine who’s next in line for a title shot in the talent starved 205 lbs division. The last time we saw “The Mauler” fight in his hometown we saw Anthony Johnson turn him into stone, and the about 9 months ago we saw Glover step into the octagon with Anthony Johnson and saw Johnson knock him into another planet in 13 seconds. The winner here will certainly have the Cormier vs Jones fight circled on their calendar. Gustafsson has fought both men, and in my opinion beat Jon Jones in what was the toughest fight of Jones’s career. This fight is going to be a battle between two men desperate for another shot at UFC gold. My gut tells me to stay away from betting on this card, but gun to my head I’m taking the much younger Gustafsson to take out the 37 year old Teixeira who could be fading past his prime.

Misha Cirkunov #7 vs Volkan Oezdemir #5.

Strange fight here as these are literally the only two ascending fighters in the old and dried out 205 lbs division. Cirkunov is a massive favorite and for good reason, he’s been ripping through the division since joining the UFC with 4-0 record under the UFC banner with 4 finishes. Including an ultra impressive win in his last fight against former top prospect Nikita Krylov. Volkman is only one fight into his UFC career.. but the 27 year old Swiss fighter came in and beat massive favorite Ovince St. Preux, who was coming off an interim title fight with Jon Jones. I know I said the winner of Gus vs Glover will likely be next in line for a title fight.. but if the UFC decides to a trilogy with Jones and Cormier, the winner in this fight will almost certainly take on the Gus vs Glover winner. If I were betting I’d be taking Cirkunov even though he’s a huge favorite.

The rest of this card is absolute ass unfortunately, so there’s no need to break down the rest of the fights. Hopefully everyone has a great Memorial Day weekend! And stayed tuned for my breakdown of next weekends featherweight title fight between Jose Aldo and Max Holloway.. which is going to be INSANE.
