NASCAR’s Monster Energy Cup Series heads to Pocono Raceway this weekend.
Pocono is a unique, 2.5-mile track known as the “Tricky Triangle,” so you can imagine how difficult it’ll be to predict the victor.
Nonetheless, that’s what we’re going to do. Here are my five picks to win you some cash this weekend…
*odds are according to Bovada
Sleeper Pick: Dale Eardnhardt Jr. (+2200)
It always feels weird putting Dale Jr. as the sleeper pick, but he’s struggled big time in his final season. He encountered engine issues in practice this weekend, however I still think he’ll have a shot to win this race. In his past 11 starts at Pocono, he’s had nine top-10 finishes, including two wins in 2014 and a runner-up last June. He’ll start 28th.
Value Pick: Joey Logano (+1100)
Getting +1100 for one of the best drivers in NASCAR isn’t a bad deal. Sure, he’s been struggling, but he’s too good to have that continue much longer. He’ll start ninth this weekend at a track he’s led the most laps at.
My Pick: Kurt Busch (+2800)
Kurt Busch at these odds is a STEAL. He’s one of the sport’s most successful drivers at Pocono. The 38-year-old is a three-time winner at the track with 13 top fives and 18 top 10s. He’ll start fifth.
Two Safest Picks: Kyle Larson (+575) & Jimmie Johnson (+675)
Larson was the fastest at practice this weekend and starts seventh at Pocono. He’s consistently racing near the front of the pack which means he has to be considered a safe bet this time around. As for Johnson, well, of course he’s on this list.
