It’s time to put those “turning left” NASCAR jokes away for the weekend as we head to the always-exciting road course Sonoma Raceway.

Road courses obviously are an entirely different breed, so predicting the winner of this race won’t be an easy task. I’ll say this, though… you might want to pick a veteran. Sonoma Raceway usually doesn’t take too kindly to rookies.

Here are my picks:

*odds are according to Westgate Sportsbook

Sleeper Pick: Daniel Suarez (100/1)

Yes, I know I just said to pick a veteran. I stand by that. But if you are feeling risky, Suarez isn’t a terrible pick at 100/1 odds. He actually has above-average experience at road courses for a rookie in the Monster Energy Cup Series.

Value Pick: Denny Hamlin (18/1)

In my humble opinion, Hamlin at 18/1 is a steal. He was last year’s best driver at road courses and placed second at Sonoma once before. As a veteran and one of the more talented all-around drivers on the circuit, Hamlin is a great pick for Sunday.

Two Safest Picks:  Kyle Busch (5/1) and Martin Truex Jr. (9/2)

Not feeling risky? Well, if that’s the case you shouldn’t be betting NASCAR races in the first place. But if you’re going to bet anyway, take one of these guys. Busch is historically good at Sonoma and Truex is the favorite as he’s dominated all season long.

My Pick: Denny Hamlin
