Monday night’s Home Run Derby has all the makings of being one of the most memorable in baseball history.
With the exciting new format and a bunch of guys who can hit the ball approximately 5,000 feet, we’re in for a wild one. Marlins star Giancarlo Stanton won last year’s contest and is the favorite for this one. However, rookie phenom Aaron Judge should give him a run for his money.
Here are the odds…
Giancarlo Stanton – 7/5
Aaron Judge – 7/4
Cody Bellinger – 6/1
Miguel Sano – 12/1
Charlie Blackmon – 14/1
Mike Moustakas – 14/1
Justin Bour – 14/1
Gary Sanchez – 16/1
…and here’s my bracket. NOTE: I didn’t predict home run totals because that’s just about the most impossible and pointless thing to guess.
My pick to take home the hardware is Aaron Judge, which doesn’t really need any explanation.
However, if Judge falters in the first round to Justin Bour, we could be looking at a completely different tournament. Bour is the guy you should be betting on if you want an underdog. 14/1 is a steal.
The Home Run Derby starts Monday night at 7:30pm. We’ll be discussing it, along with plenty of other All-Star break topics, on this week’s episode of The Eephus Podcast.
